‘An uncle takes his autistic nephew under his wing in a trial of radical parenting and epic awakenings…’
The Beta Phase
A short film by Perry and Cheryl Harrison
Alistair is a reformed roughneck leading an uncomplicated life in the far reaches of Northern Australia. He has found a rhythm; sun, sand and Friday night football, he accounts to no one.
Until his nephew arrives.
Jake is focused. Far more than most. He sees what is in front of him and little else. He’s an ‘Aspie’; a teenager with Asperger’s Syndrome. To get a sense of his exterior, think social norms then remove small talk, eye contact and interaction.
When Jake embarks on his first big solo adventure Alistair resolves to embrace the challenge. But what begins as an uncle authoring a journey of new experiences quickly descends into a catastrophe… with infinite potential.
